Welcome to Beautiful Boulder, Colorado

The Boulder County Film Commission is here to help you navigate permitting, suggest locations, connect you with crew and support services, and support our local film industry. Even before “Mork and Mindy” was filmed here, the city was ready for its close-up, with sweeping natural beauty, dramatic mountain backdrops, and intimate cityscapes that make for a spectacular setting!

Founded in 1861, Boulder, and Boulder County, have a wide range of filming locations, historic neighborhoods, architectural choices, dramatic landscapes, and winding mountain roads. We’re only 24 miles from downtown Denver, which in reality is only a half-hour drive. Denver International Airport is about 40 miles from Boulder, so only about 45 minutes to an hour away.

Boulder is a film-friendly community providing you with state-of-the-art crew and support services to meet your film production needs. Boulder and Boulder County have been the location for numerous projects over the years, including feature films, TV commercials, episodic programs, documentaries, commercial photo shoots and music videos.

The Boulder County Film Commission is here to help you in a variety of ways, including:

  • Helping you navigate the permitting process.
  • Outreach to increase awareness of Boulder & Boulder County filming locations.

With our great weather and beautiful scenery, I welcome you to film in Boulder and Boulder County! Boulder is a perfect balance of urban and outdoors, and the Boulder County Film Commission is here to help you with permitting and connecting your productions to the right contacts with our partner organizations, as well as production facilitation, equipment rentals, location services, providing resources and recommendations for our highly-skilled local film industry, and promoting our region as a film-friendly destination.

We’re able to offer you world-class film and video production crew right here in Boulder, allowing you to minimize the crew you need to bring here, lowering your budget on line items like housing and transportation. Our local rental houses are packed with all the gear you’re used to using, and Denver is only a short half-hour drive away. As a filmmaker myself, I know what it’s like to work in a town you’re not familiar with, and that’s why we’re here – to help you.

I look forward to working with you to make your next project here a great success!

“Exposure Labs has always been based here in beautiful Boulder, Colorado and we have filmed many scenes from our films “Chasing Ice”, “Chasing Coral”, and “The Social Dilemma” across the Front Range and especially in Boulder, including interviews with incredible scientists and experts, as well as some of the narrative scenes from “The Social Dilemma”. We have had wonderful experiences working with the City staff and officials around permitting, locations, and road closures. With 300 days of sunshine and incredibly photogenic locations, we couldn't have picked a better home for our films.”
