Taught by Colorado-based commercial and film director Andrea Nordgren of Heroine Films, in this course you’ll learn to examine and hone your point of view as well as tips and tools that you can incorporate in every stage of directing a project. Breaking in, leveling up, and peeling back the curtain on what is needed to be a commercial director is what this class is all about. We’ll go well beyond the basics of an online course and talk about specific examples and the unspoken realities of this career.

Many filmmakers, or even aspiring filmmakers, set out to make a documentary but get frustrated along the way because there turn out to be many moving parts. This one-day class is designed to help you get focused and teach you the steps and best practices you’ll need to make a great documentary without wasting your time and money.
This class will take you through the whole process of creating a documentary from start to finish. Covering what kind of footage you need to get, how to obtain it, and what to do with it once you get it. Learn from a live instructor with years of experience working on award winning documentaries, so plenty of opportunities for questions and discussion. All experience levels are welcome.

In this one-day hands-on workshop, award-winning editor Mike Scalisi will take you through an overview of his editing process and teach you step-by-step how to edit using Adobe Premiere. The Boulder County Film Commission’s next big event takes place on September 13 at 5pm at the new Niche Event Space in north Boulder – join us to help celebrate the creative industry in Boulder! Time for networking, and featuring keynote speaker Marc Sotkin, the award-winning Producer and Head Writer of The Golden Girls and Laverne & Shirley, who will regale the crowd with some fun behind-the-scenes stories, as well as modern tales of what it takes to be a showrunner! Join the Boulder County Film Commission at eTown on Wednesday May 17th and meet your fellow filmmakers, photographers, and designers! If you’re inspired, get up on stage for 60 seconds to let the crowd know you’re looking for collaborators on a project, or maybe you’re hiring – this is the perfect target audience. We’ll have raffle prizes, drinks and light hors d’oeuvres, lots of opportunities to make some new contacts, and a short presentation by award-winning filmmaker Katrina Miller!
If you’re a high school student interested in filmmaking, check out our exciting “Intro to PA” workshop we’re holding on Saturday March 4th at 11am as part of the Boulder International Film Festival! During this 2-hour workshop, specifically for high school students that are interested in working on film/video sets, we’ll give participants an introduction to the basic skills for working on set as a PA (Production Assistant). The instructor, award-winning filmmaker Tom Parkin, has been working in the film, TV, and video production business since 1994, in roles from Production Assistant all the way up to Director. He’ll be sharing his many years of experience, so high school students can help start their careers with a solid knowledge of the ins and outs of being a successful PA! The cost is only $10; students need to register ahead of time to reserve their seats; scholarships are available.
