FILMED IN BOULDER

Rainbow Socks is a homegrown series, and its first season was filmed in Boulder County. Jeff Kagan and Paige Doughty have performed for local families as Jeff & Paige for more than 20 years, and directors Dia Sokol Savage and Dana Romanoff are local too. Filming began in April 2025. The first five episodes were shot in seven days, entirely inside the county, and the cast and crew returned that November to finish the season.

Outdoor scenes for those episodes were filmed at Lost Gulch Overlook on Flagstaff Mountain and at two Longmont-area farms, Ya Ya Farm and Orchard and Sunflower Farm. The Ranger Cottage, where each episode begins and ends, is a set built in a Longmont barn, inspired by Chautauqua’s own Ranger Cottage. The Daily Camera also lists Open Space and Mountain Parks trails and the Louder Than 11 studio in Boulder. Local children appear on screen, and the first episode was previewed at Chautauqua Auditorium on August 24, 2025.

ABOUT

Jeff Kagan, Paige Doughty and Shaun Derik star as the Rainbow Socks Rangers, who start each episode at their Ranger Cottage and chase the kind of questions young children ask, about bobcats, birdsong, lightning, rocks, rainbows and why the seasons change. Many of the creatures and characters they meet are the Rangers themselves in homemade costumes, and the lessons come through original songs, dancing, simple experiments and a little Spanish. Every episode of the live-action series ends by sending viewers outside to explore.
