A $14.5 million feature film finished a six-week Colorado shoot in April 2025, and Boulder landmarks run through its location list. The Denver Post reported on May 7, 2025 that “The Man Who Changed the World” was filmed wholly in Colorado and that 90% of the crew was local.

Greg Pritikin directed the period piece, set in 1969. It tells the story of Lawrence “Bud” Stoecker, a Colorado inventor inspired by Buckminster Fuller and the man behind the A-frame homes of Delta Vacation Homes. His son, executive producer Dean Stoecker, owns Ranch Productions and funded the film himself, the Post reports. The cast includes Christopher Lowell, Jeanine Mason, Illeana Douglas and Wallace Shawn.

Where It Filmed

Boulder locations named by the Post include:

  • The Boulder Theater
  • The Hotel Boulderado, with its License No. 1 bar dressed as an upscale restaurant
  • The Boulder County Courthouse
  • Pine Street, for a car stunt
  • The University of Colorado campus, including outside Macky Auditorium
  • Chautauqua Park
  • Sacred Heart of Jesus church and the Boulder Zen Center

The Post also lists private homes in Lafayette, in Boulder County. Outside the county, locations included Denver, Westminster, Fort Collins and Carter Lake.

Local Crew, State Credit

In a June 2026 column, Boulder County Film Commissioner Bruce Borowsky wrote that before the shoot he had met with a producer interested in filming in Boulder, shared advice and helped connect them with local crew members.

The Colorado Economic Development Commission approved a Colorado Film Incentive for the film in February 2025. A state media alert dated February 28, 2025 described a $1.8 million refundable tax credit, an anticipated $9 million in Colorado spending and a projected economic impact of up to $16.2 million.

The crew was outside the Boulder Theater on March 27, 2025, the day the Sundance Institute named Boulder the next home of the Sundance Film Festival and Governor Jared Polis spoke at a press conference there. A production photo in the Post shows the marquee welcoming the festival that day. During the shoot, the Post reports, it also carried a 1969 title, “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.”

For us, the point is practical: a period feature was made on real Boulder streets and landmarks, with a mostly local crew and a state credit behind it. Planning your own shoot?
