On February 24, 2026, the Sundance Film Festival set the dates for its first edition in Boulder: January 21-31, 2027. The same announcement named where it will happen: 11 theaters, plus four venues for talks and other Festival programming.

The venues named on February 24

The 11 theaters on that list:

  • Dairy Arts Center: Boedecker Theater and Gordon Gamm Theater
  • Boulder Theater
  • eTown Hall
  • Chautauqua Auditorium
  • Cinemark Century Boulder
  • Boulder High School Auditorium
  • Casey Middle School Auditorium
  • CU Boulder campus: Macky Auditorium Concert Hall, Muenzinger Auditorium and Roe Green Theatre

Talks and other programming go to the Canyon Theater at the Boulder Public Library District, the Dairy Arts Center, eTown Hall and Old Main on the CU Boulder campus. The Dairy Arts Center and eTown Hall are on both lists.

That was the lineup on announcement day. As of October 13, 2026, the Festival’s venue page showed the same locations plus two more Dairy Arts Center rooms: the Grace Gamm Theater and the Vandeveer Workshop. Use that page for the current list.

Upgrades on the CU Boulder campus

On April 22, 2026, CU Boulder Today described upgrades planned for the three campus theaters, with work starting that May: a new screen and Dolby sound in each room, stage ramps at Macky and Roe Green, and added wheelchair-accessible seating at Macky. Old Main is for talks, not films, and was not part of the 2026 work. On October 2, 2026, CU Boulder’s CMDI Now reported that the renovations were carried out over the summer.

Two things matter locally. The theaters are not all in one part of town: the list takes in two school auditoriums, Chautauqua, the Dairy Arts Center and the campus. And the campus work outlasts the Festival: CU Boulder said the upgraded rooms will serve students, other performances and the International Film Series, held at Muenzinger, year-round.

Three of the venues are in our Creative Directory: Dairy Arts Center, eTown Hall and Colorado Chautauqua, home of the Chautauqua Auditorium. For Festival questions, our Sundance Film Festival page points each kind of question to the right contact. The City of Boulder’s festival guide covers getting around, renting out a home and information for local businesses.
