Indoor & Outdoor
Callahan House is a two-and-a-half-story Queen Anne house of red brick and Lyons sandstone, built in 1892 two blocks west of Longmont’s Main Street. Its wraparound porch and porte cochere date from 1904. A formal Italian garden to the south has a fountain, statues and a lawn, with tree shade in late afternoon.
Inside are carved woodwork, parquet floors and a hand-painted parlor. The house holds 75 across two floors, the garden 125 (late May to October). Only the main floor is wheelchair accessible. The back alley is for brief loading; free public parking is at 4th and Terry. No open flames, no smoking, no vehicles on the historic driveways.
Thomas Callahan, an early employer and partner of J.C. Penney, and his wife Alice gave the house to the City of Longmont in 1938. It is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Book through the City’s House Manager (Callahan@LongmontColorado.gov, 303-776-5191). The City’s pages list photography rates but not filming, so ask first. Filming that blocks streets or rights-of-way needs a City Special Event Permit. Allow 45 days: the City’s filming note says 30, its application steps 45.
