Downtown Longmont

Longmont’s Main Street stays open to traffic and doubles as U.S. Highway 287. Between 3rd and 5th avenues, brick buildings of one to three stories, most built before 1910, front onto wide sidewalks. Four mid-block breezeways lead to alleys and public parking lots behind. Parking is free, mostly with a two-hour limit on weekdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

These blocks are the core of the Downtown Longmont Historic District (National Register, 2017). At 3rd Avenue the Dickens Opera House faces the three-story Imperial Hotel building, both from 1881. Farther north are the 1907 Odd Fellows hall and the former St. Stephen’s Church (1881). Jesters Dinner Theatre, 224 Main Street, rents its room for private events.

Filming that blocks streets, rights-of-way or public access to public property needs a City of Longmont Special Event Permit. The City’s filming guidance says to apply 30 days ahead; its event application says 45 (City Clerk’s Office, 303-651-8649). Main Street is a U.S. highway, so raise any closure early. For breezeways, plazas and parking lots, call the Longmont Downtown Development Authority (303-651-8484). Storefronts and theaters are private; arrange them with each owner.
