Downtown Louisville covers about eight blocks along Main and Front streets. Both run north-south, so most storefronts face east or west. The historic ones are one or two stories, some with wood-frame false fronts from around 1900, between newer buildings. The BNSF railroad on the east edge is a quiet zone: horns are not routinely sounded. Curb parking is mostly two-hour; some lots are unrestricted.

Main Street has three National Register storefronts: the two-story National Fuel Company Store at 801, lettered State Mercantile; the stamped-metal 1894 drugstore building at 700; and the Jacoe Store at 1001, now the Louisville Historical Museum.

Front Street and its Steinbaugh Pavilion host a farmers market and summer concerts. The City expects to rebuild both between early 2027 and spring 2028, mostly October through May.

Louisville was founded in 1878 as a coal mining town.

The City manages the streets and publishes no film permit. Groups of more than 25 using a City street, right-of-way or trail, commercial groups included, need a Permitted Special Event Application at least 60 days ahead (City Clerk’s Office, 303-335-4519). Shops and restaurants are private, arranged with each owner.
