Indoor & Outdoor

A working Art Deco theater in downtown Boulder, between Pearl Street Mall and Spruce Street. The west-facing 14th Street front, restored in 2025, rises in terracotta sunburst panels above a two-sided neon marquee that can carry a custom message. The hall holds up to 850 seated or 1,000 standing, with a balcony, wall murals and a stage 42 feet wide by 26 feet deep.

Load-in is through the alley behind the building, and two dressing rooms sit downstairs off stage left. The stage has three-phase camlock power. For touring shows the operator reserves parking on Spruce and 14th streets, with no shore power; vehicles may run a generator.

Z2 Entertainment operates the theater and rents it in 10-hour periods. Its published terms cover events and touring shows, so ask about shoots: matt@z2ent.com. Filming on the street or sidewalk outside needs a City of Boulder film permit; apply at least 14 days ahead.

It opened in 1906 as the Curran Opera House and reopened as the Boulder Theater in 1936, rebuilt as a movie palace by architect Robert Boller. The City designated it a landmark in 1980.
