Hotel Boulderado

A five-story red brick hotel at 13th and Spruce streets, one block from the Pearl Street Mall, opened in 1909. Both street fronts carry corner towers, curved gables, arched fourth-floor windows and iron-railed porches and balconies. The lobby is a central court with a cherry staircase and mezzanine under a stained-glass ceiling, and the original Otis elevator still runs.

It has 160 guest rooms, Victorian in the 1909 building and contemporary in the 1980s north wing, plus 10,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space. The Boulderado Ballroom is 74 by 39 feet with an 8-foot-8 ceiling. The main entrance and valet stand face 13th Street.

Boulder architects William Redding & Son designed it. The original Italian glass ceiling was removed in 1960 after snow damage; today’s glass dates from 1977. It joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
